Our Mission

Perkiomen Creek, our chapter's namesake is the main focus of today's restoration efforts, in an attempt to extend a growing wild trout population. By working with landowners, state and local leaders, and other state organizations, Perkiomen Valley Trout Unlimited has had great of success in restoring key tributaries of the Perkiomen, through several miles of tree plantings, streambank restoration and structure, educating communities and landowners on best land management practices. Now comprised of about 200 members the chapter is working hard to complete the major work of restoring stream banks and water quality. Water quality has already improved enough in the main branch that a noticeable difference has been recorded in the water quality of the Green Lane Reservoir. As we move forward the goal is to extend the current high quality wild trout water to the reservoir and promote the recreational value of the watershed.

Announcements & News

Trout in the Classroom

Students from the Perkiomen Valley Middle School West released 41 browns in to the Perkiomen in June. Trout in the Classroom (TIC) is a Trout Unlimited sponsered program that brings the conservation ethic to young people through their science classes in their schools. The water temp was 54 degrease.  The students took water samples for the stream (Dissolved oxygen, Ph, and Nitrates.)  Through the water quality tests and the visual tests on Macro invertebrates in the stream( Water pennies, dragonfly nymphs, Mayflies caddis nymphs ect.) they have determined that the stream is very healthy.  My plan is to return to another TU meeting and deliver many of the student findings to the group.  This has been a great experience for me as well as the students. (Matt Weir)
